You cannot run the country with a beginner politician -- previously an actor (mercy on his soul and my respect to his family). Even if Arroyo steals, or is a cheat or fraud, still she is the best to run this country smoothly with confidence and create more jobs. Her existing finance team is the best ever in Philippine history. The Garci tape may be true or false -- that is the habit of Filipinos around the world. They love "sipsip" (bootlicking) and rumors.

I ask you to be realistic and push forward for the sake of the country. See the countries around you, where they reach, and where is the Philippines -- still behind and going further backwards because of some narrow-minded or paid people posted in streets that disturb businesses and the government. This will backfire on them; they are wasting their and the government's time. My advice is to back your government, let it work and it will really support you. No government in the world wishes misery for its people.

This is a counter argument to the article of a certain Alawi S. Saeed Abdulla from Bahrain in his opinion letter entitled 'Enough is enough?'

He claims that, "WHETHER President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo committed fraud or not, she's the best for this country". He also goes far as saying, "Even if Arroyo steals, or is a cheat or fraud, still she is the best to run this country... May I ask, Alawi S. Saeed Abdulla, have you ever considered going back to primary school so as to differentiate right from wrong? Where on earth can you find a society that justifies wrongdoings? Apparently, there is such in Bahrain.

But we dare to differ.

If our President truly is a fraud and a squatter in Malacañang, there are no justifications for that grave act against the law and the governed even if she has the "best financial team in history". We never just sit back and watch her plunder our country saying, "What can we do, she's the best we got". We never settle in apathy.

We act.

All these criticisms against her administration is a product of the vigorous search for truth by the media and the governed. Thus, she must answer to the governed.

You know why the media don't support the President? Because there is no president! There is nothing to support because the head of state is no head of state.

She's not the best we've got. The educational system may be in the brink of collapse but we never run out of potential leaders. It might not be obvious in the current political weather today but the Philippines never run out of great minds. Call me sentimental, but a drop of hope never hurts anyone. And to settle for her despite the lies and cheats? Please! It is as bad as having Estrada or FPJ.

If Arroyo cheats, steals or frauds, how can we expect a better country from her administration? How can we have a leader and a representative in national affairs that brings about the morals of a common thief? The skils of a common thief! In fact, she is lower than a common thief as she sits in an airconditioned office and enjoys licking a Mickey Mouse ice cream in Hong Kong while many of her people goes to bed hungry. Now, who could justify that?

The Garci tape is not based on rumors! It's a tape and a concrete evidence at that! It is enough reason to understand the trigger of suspicion among Filipinos who expect higher moral standards for a state leader. And to just let that pass is impossible for a people who have learned to raise their voices and fought to be heard.

Alawi S. Saeed Abdulla, we may be a third-world country but we never settle for the immoral. We may be a poor country but we never tolerate stealing.

We may have a warped educational system but at least we know the basics of right and wrong.

this is an essay i passed to our NSTP instructor as an answer to the question: WHY AM I A GOOD MENTOR? it (the question) is just so horribly absurd that i cannot pass up the chance to post it here.

What a horrible question this is! It promotes self-elevation and inclines to give a written harangue of pompous description aiming to magnify the character of the writer. I do not wish to indulge myself into this trap as I rightfully know that it is a trap. No one, and I mean no one in his right mind would answer this question without thinking that this could be a test of ego or pretentiousness.

And so I prefer to answer: I cannot determine whether I am a good mentor or not. Since the question is a leading question, I uphold my right to withhold self-judgment as it is a cheap act to promote oneself. The least that I can do probably is lay out my cards and have you have your just judgment. So here goes…

I am well versed both in English and Filipino but I am not a language specialist on either one of them. I can speak in English with zero to five percent error in pronunciation. My vocabulary is limited enough to shame me in front of Miriam Defensor Santiago and Conrado de Quiros though enough to maybe grant me a visa for future visits in any English-speaking country.

As far as I know, I am well-read. Although I am not the bookish type of person with the stereotypical glasses and ratty out-of-fashion clothes, I served my mind well by feeding it with the works of Robert Ludlum, Jessica Zafra, Dan Brown, and many others. Though I haven’t read Finnegan’s Wake or Ulysses, I consider myself a fan of James Joyce just because of his personal sense of humor. I am an idiot in Classic Literature and half-heartedly wished that the works of classical writers like Homer, Virgil, Shakespeare, and Marlowe were nonexistent. I could never get past a verse in The Iliad without my eyebrows ricocheting fueled by the verbose descriptions of a simple scene such as Akhilleus moving from point A to point B.

Now, let us move on to my personality. Quite frankly, I consider myself a tangled web of complicated personalities. Even I don’t get myself.

But there’s one thing I know sure about me: I am not a paragon of virtue. I have nasty habits of my own which I will not state for your own good. Although it is true that I may never be qualified for sainthood, I am not a terribly bad person. I can be very helpful at times as long as I can. I am a person the last time I checked. I know that some people might expect too much but it helps to remind them the limitations of my physical and mental self as one. Still, with my experience on how negatively advantageous people can be, I have grown a quality of wariness and disgust for such people whom I call leeches.

I love learning. Though I never study that much (because in my opinion, studying is different from learning), I see to it that I have my proper amount of learning per day to help me operate in the “real world”. Thus, I am fond of people that are fond of learning and I admire people who, in spite of their obvious mental lackness, hold up their courage and persistence towards learning. I need not say who I am referring to.

Am I a good mentor? Frankly, I don’t know. And I don’t aspire to answer that. But one thing is for sure: I, with all my apparent capabilities and weaknesses, just want to help.

harry potter 4

Shangri La Plaza had Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire house in all of their five Cineplexes. All five!!! That number is enough to describe how anticipated the fourth movie of the series is.

i dragged my tired yet excited carcass to the mall for the opening of the movie with three of my friends. all of us were slaves of Harry Potter except for my roommate Jared who doesn't seem to care. He's got this unmistakeable ennui plastered on his face. I? huh! i've read the books, watched the prior movies, researched their biographies (not really). now who would be a greater fan than me?

of course thousands of people would challenge that. hordes of harry potter fans crowded the 6th floor of shangri la and seemed tickish (yes, tickish, not ticklish). "i've waited one year for this!" croaked someone. all of them seemed to have consumed gallons of energy boosters, standing before the doorway of the theater almost drooling. of course most moviegoers were kids and we felt a little alienated. i was delusioning a pack of fourth graders with drugged eyes ready to pounce me for invading their turf. one of them pounced me actually, when i was waiting in line for the popcorn. and then i saw that the poor kid was being pushed by another big kid, a bully perhaps. see how this type of kiddie movies affect our children today? Warner Brothers and Walt Disney, are you reading this?

as our butts enjoy the comfy seats of shangri la cineplex (we should, as sitting there already costs 170 pesos), we talked about what would happen in this movie this time. not in "what is the plot" way. we read the book, remember? except jared who never seems to indulge in any book except by dan brown's.

harry potter 1 and 3 seems to be remarkable to me and had well respect to the book by J.K. Rowling. the second, however, gave me an urge to throw my drinks to the wide screen when Fawkes the horribly fake-looking, robotic Phoenix came into view. i can't believe filmmaker Christopher Columbus could come up with such ridiculously, pardon me, sh*tty prop!

as the movie was shown, i was more than thankful that no one was throwing blow by blow accounts of the scenes. otherwise, i could've thrown him out of the cinema.

this is one of the cons of a book-based movie. some hotshot who have read it is more than ready to serve you an account of what is happening. that hotshot or hotshots may be some people on your left, right, front or back that keep on discussing the scenes of the movie. worse, their accounts are ridiculously wrong!

and it condescends your mind to their puny, sometimes superficial (for some reasons) garbage talk!!! i remind you dear readers that since you paid full with your hard-earned money to relinquish your desire of watching the movie, you have the every right to haul their butts out of the cinema. or just summon the nearest cinema staffer to do it. use the accio spell to summon the staffer, and expelliarmus to expel the disrespectful gits. they sure do deserve it.

fortunately for you, i won't give something that would spoil the movie for those who still haven't watched it. but i will do tell you how magnificent the movie was. it surpassed the neo-dimensions of the first movie, trashed the puny effects of the second, and exceeded the high expectations of those who watched the great third.

i now officially rank the movie as one of the best movies i have ever watched. and so did jared. when we left the cinema, the ennui face was replaced by "I'm gonna watch it again this Saturday" smile.

such is the magic of Harry Potter.

what do all writers fear in common?

a day with nothing to write about.

you know how devastating it is to look at a blank monitor with nothing but cricket screeches resonating inside your brain? the horrid sounds caused by the absence of ideas are enough to drive you crazy and make you jump off the window of your office. but you didn't 'coz you realize you're on the 55th floor.

also some hotshot might think that writing is a very easy job and one just need to sew some 500 plus words, make sense out of it and voila! just send it to your editor and its an instant article. well, its not. its a very intimate process of the mind that transports the writer into another dimension, another perspective and feels that words and like a hagiographer and a gospel, jots them down into a piece of paper or encode them in a computer. see? it requires brain power!!!which most people do not have!!!i have this theory, or maybe a theory that ive read a long time ago and just contained it as one of my own, that people get dumber and stupider as time passes.
remember the cavemen? (of course you don't! you were not born yet)

the cavemen are the most intelligent people that ever walked this earth. they discovered fire and such and laid out all the basic foundation for humanity. it requires extreme brainpower for such limited brain knowledge to discover and realize the different uses of fire!

Rants then followed about religiosity and made a request to post my name among the more or less a hundred names already posted to proclaim my faith)
it angered me.
yes, if the bulletin title was jesus christ, i wouldn't open it. you know why? because in the past few months, these kinds of messages were filled with crap like having to post your name in this board if you want to be saved. duh. if you believe all this nonsense, dont you think theres something wrong with your faith? do you really believe that by trying to open these messages and complying to their orders (or requests) , you become a better christian? you dont need to usher people to do their faith. we do our faith because we want to do it, and we do it without being coerced to do it. we believe in our faith and that's all that matters. i dont need to open envangelizing messages just to proclaim my faith. i dont need to post my name and become one of the many fools that degrade the standards of evangelism by using the net. whoever starts this circulating nonsense should smell the stench of the crap he's/she's spreading.

I HAVE SEVERAL "FRIENDLY" ACCOUNTS IN THE NET but that doesnt necessarily mean i'm friendly. i have friendster, myspace, hi5, hatester, and hipstir. the ones that i really keep up are friendster and hi5. friendster because this is where my real friends are and hi5 because this is where i could fool people without risking my identity for their revenge. hehehe.
the rest are just plain tryouts.
if you have tried logging in hi5, you would notice that it is alot more, uhm, permissive. you dont have any degrees in acquainting with other people and you could pretty much scream obscenities to anyone. which also makes you vulnerable to any obscenities being thrown at you.
it is advisable not to flaunt one's true identity in such situation wherein privacy security is unheard of.
one's flagrant liaison with another user might result to a catastrophic downfall of your personhood and career.
okay now, i was just advising you people to taKe caution when you have established an account in the internet. i mean, everybody could just swoop in and grab informations from these accounts and these informations might arise as instruments for blackmail in the future.
especially when you're dealing with relationships founded on the net.
